Welcome to Norkom in English
Nordiska kommunforskningsföreningen, Norkom, is an association for Nordic local goverment researchers, founded in 2014. Norkom arranges a conference (annually), sessions for project meetings (biannyally) and digital lunches. Norkom mostly works in the Scandinavian languages.
The first Norkom-conferense was arranged in Oslo in November 1992 and the original partners were the School of Public Administration at University of Gothenburg, the University of Bergen, the University of Southern Denmark and Åbo Akademi University.
How the Norkom-conference works:
The Norkom-conference is a conference for researchers on municipalities, regions or other local government, about local democracy, administration, economy, management, leadership, multi-level government, local government reforms and so on from different academic disciplines. The main strength of the conference is that all participants are really engaged int the working groups. At the conference you get comments from other Nordic people with insiders’ knowledge of the Nordic situation.
The Norkom-conference is usually arranged every year, Thursday-Friday in the end of November.
Working groups are built based on the abstracts, sent in at registration. The working groups are the same during the whole conference. Participants usually present full papers, but preliminary versions or presentations of key findings are also admissible. The papers are distributed only between the participants.
The Norkom-conference is officially organised in the Scandinavian languages. For many researchers this is the only academic conference where the discussions are held in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. We have a lot of international friends, though, of which some like to participate in this conference. We provide a working group in English, where all papers and the discussions are in English, but key notes, speeches at receptions and the like are more likely to be in Scandinavian than in English. As an international guest you are welcome to participate on these premises.
There are usually 1-2 key notes at the conference, either academics or practicians, who speak either Scandinavian or English.
